SUPPORTING HANDS NEEDED, SPARE YOUR MOMENTS AND HELP

T-Shirt Soul-Match #5

Following the multiple 2016 earthquakes, together with heavy monsoon rainfalls, a devastating landslide resulted in the remote village of Lumle, VDC-6, Kaski District, after midnight on June 31st.

Shiva Devkota (45), a father of three sons (6, 11, and 12) and a teacher here at Siddha Lower Secondary School, providing for a family of ten including his mother, father, wife and three unemployed, student, younger brothers, counted himself and all his family members lucky to survive as they chose the right direction to flee by when the land slid just past their house, collecting his next-door neighbour’s home and family, along with 14 houses, 28 souls, and the village’s 20,000 litre water tank that worsened the catastrophe, raising the already high water and mud flows through the narrow and steep walkways used to escape.

Mr Devkota, that night, lead only a few other brave fathers to rescue buried souls. They bare-handedly managed to save four victims over five hours, one who passed away from injuries hours later before any medical treatment could be received.

The traumatising experience still plays on everyone’s mind today, especially during the summer nights, but Shiva and locals do not believe in relocating their village as the answer. Instead, they hope to see landslide-warning technology implemented in the village soon, but Lumle has received minimal recovery support since.

We have elected him as one of two Souls Helping Souls Delegates for Lumle support, and we are raising financial donations through webicon_green SUPPORTING HANDS NEEDED, SPARE YOUR MOMENTS AND HELPgofundme.com to expand the currently insufficient water access for everyone here.
